Italy Olympic Pins

The Italy Olympic pin comes from a long line of trading pins that dates back to 1906 when the Games went to Sweden. In 1924, international athletes started to trade these Olympic pins to other athletes as signs of friendship and goods sportsmanship.

During the years to follow, the uses, manufacturers and the varieties blossomed to evolve into what the Italy Olympic pin looks like today. Up until the late 70s, Olympic pin trading was done between athletes and officials of the Olympics. Things have certainly changed from then to the present Italy Olympic pin.

The big pin boom really picked up steam in 1980 at the Winter Games in Lake Placid, New York. This allowed the spectators to collect these pins so they could take home memories or start their own collection as a hobby. The first sponsored pin came form Budweiser as they set up a tent at the 1984 Summer Games in Los Angeles, California. Today, Budweiser has many tents set up around Italy so people can buy or exchange their Italy Olympic pin.

In 1988, Coke got into the pin trading game when they headed up all the booths at the Calgary Olympic Winter Games. While they were second to Budweiser, Coke has really set the trend for the all the pin trading including the Italy Olympic pin. As normally predicted, the Italy Olympic pin is supposed to be the most bought and traded pins of all time.
